Cloud Computing: ISMB Won the Best Paper Award at 3PGCIC 2014

17 November 2014

The paper “HPC CloudPills: on-demand deployment and execution of HPC application in cloud environments” has been named Best Paper at 3PGCIC 2014, the 9th International Conference on P2P, Parallel, Grid, Cloud and Internet Computing, that has been held on November 8-10, 2014 in Guanzhou, China.

The publication presents the results of the HPC CloudPills research project, that has been co-funded by Programma Operativo Regionale FESR 2007/2013 of the Regione Piemonte. The project aimed at exploring how the technologies of Cloud Computing can help to reduce the cost and complexity associate with creating, maintaining and managing IT infrastructure for High Performance Computing (HPC). HPC is a valuable instrument in many areas of scientific research and industrial production. However, due to the high investment costs for its implementation, its diffusion is often restricted to large research centres or medium to large size industrial companies. The objective was to make the high-performance computing accessible to reality today not capable of supporting the high initial costs and management that it involves.

The paper was authored by ISMB, together with 3 different companies (Aethia, Nice e Simularia) that are the partners of the HPC CloudPills project. ISMB is involved with the Infrastructures and Systems for Advanced Computing (IS4AC) Research Unit within the Advanced Computing and Electromagnetics (ACE) Area, represented by Pietro Ruiu and Olivier Terzo.
