ISMB at the kick-off meeting of the Snowball project

27 April 2014

Gedicom will host the kick off meeting of the Snowball project - Lower the impact of aggravating factors in crisis situations thanks to adaptative foresight and decision-support tools - on April 29th and 30th in Paris. The project is funded by EU within the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7-SEC-2013.4.1.2).

The overall objective of the Snowball project is to increase preparedness and response capacities of decision-makers, emergency planners and first responders in respect to amplifying hazards in large disasters. It involves three ISMB’s Research Areas (Mobile Solutions, Advanced Computing & Electromagnetics and Innovation Development), while the consortium includes also the Fraunhofer Institute for High-Speed Dynamics, the Ernst-Mach-Institut (EMI), the Università di Napoli Federico II, the Univerisitè de Louvain, the Cofely Ineo, and the Public Safety Communication Europe (PSCE).

The main expected impacts of the Snowball project are: a scientific breakthrough, a fosterer of capacity to face complex crisis situations by better predicting cascading effects and integrating population behavior in simulations, a contribution to the security of EU citizens, and a commercially viable project contributing to EU competitiveness.
